A Mission Driven Life - 6/10/97
Next John 3:30 Letters

HI everyone,

I just got done running and want to let Tim Steenbergh know that I'm getting into shape again. It is hard though.

Well, I hope everyone is having a great day because I do have some more things for each of us to think about. I really believe that summer is a great time to set back, think, and relax.

What I want to share this week comes from material that I have been going through by Tim Elmore. It is great stuff and I want to pass it on to you and I would love to hear form you and find out what your thoughts are.

"No one has the right to come into this world and to go out of it, without leaving behind him distinct and legitimate reasons for having passed thought it."
.....................George Washington Carver

I truly believe that God designed us, humans, to live "on purpose". The difference between a joyful, energized Christian and one who is not -- is often "purpose". It is not the Bible, the Holy Spirit's power or the love of God. Each of us has access to those. But not every Christian is in touch with their God-given calling. We are not all "mission driven"

Notice two statements Jesus made at the end of His earthly ministry" - " I have glorified You on the earth, Father. I have finished the work and accomplished the purpose you have given to me." John 17:4

"As the Father has sent Me, so I send you..." John 20:21

Just as Jesus was sent with a specific mission to accomplish, so we are sent with a specific mission or purpose.

1. A Mission Will > Motivate You

A Christian should be the most motivated people on earth

2. A Mission Will > Keep your priorities straight

When we forget the ultimate, we become slaves to the immediate

3. A Mission Will > Develop you potential

I like this one =) What we receive by reaching our goals is not nearly as important as what we become while pursuing them.

4. A Mission Will > Give you power to live in the present

When the storms of daily living begin to blow severely, those who will not quit are those who see tomorrow clearly.

Your Mission should have the Following:

1. Contain Life-Changing Conviction

"It is nothing to die. It is an awful thing never to have lived" Jean Valjean

2. Include others

"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." Albert Pine

3. Bigger than yourself (must have God to do this - not yourself)

Our pursuit should be never ending; not something that can be accomplished in a couple of years. Richard Bach, who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull, has a simple test to determine whether your mission in life is accomplished: "If you're alive, it isn't."

4. Eternal purpose

Dr. Anthony Campolo tells about a sociological study in which fifty people over the age of ninety-five were asked on question, "If you could live your life over again, what would you do differently?" Three answers constantly re-emerged and dominated the results of the study.

  1. If I had to do over again, I would... Reflect more
  2. If I had to do over again, I would... Do more things that would live on after I die
  3. If I had to do over again, I would... Risk more

Question?

Do you have a MISSION DRIVEN LIFE?

Are you consumed with a Purpose that is so big that you need God's help to accomplish it?

Is it eternal?
Is it changing you?
Do you know what your purpose is?

Have a good day everyone! I would love to here form you to. Keep pressing on!!!!!!

God is Good All The Time!
"He Must become greater, I must become Less"
