THEOLOGY FOR INTIMACY WITH GOD - 9/10/97
Next John 3:30 Letters

Hi All,

What a week it has been. God is good all the time!

Just got done with a great Fall Kick Off with my Student Ministries on Saturday. It was really a great time!

Those of you who are in ministry I really recommend going on a two week vacation if you can. I just got back from one and I can't tell you how great it was. It really refreshed and reenergize me for ministry. Not just in the church and community but also the family.

The Thought of the week is "Intimacy With God".

For us to become intimate with God, we need to understand the ingredients necessary for it. It doesn't just happen; there are certain issues to be settled before you will experience an intimate relationship with Him.

THEOLOGY FOR INTIMACY WITH GOD. I believe that this will get us into position to be intimate.

T- Time:
You can't experience real closeness with anyone overnight. Time is often the most difficult ingredient we must add. Application: I must be patient.
H- Humility:
Scripture says that God draws near to the humble, but opposes the proud. He loves a broken and contrite heart. Application: I must be broken.
E- Expression:
You will not get close to God or anyone else without both of you expressing yourselves in vulnerable, loving ways. Application: I must learn to worship, authentically.
O - Openness:
God isn't found through rigidity or legalism, but by relational, honest, transparent approaches to His grace and presence. Application: I must trust and be transparent with Him
L- Listening:
You must learn how to listen to His voice if you want to be close to Him. Revelation comes to those who know His voice. Application: I must invest time in scripture study, memorizing, and prayer.
O - Obedience:
A desire to please and a commitment to act are pre-requisites. Jesus associated obedience and friendship with Him. Application: I must desire to please God more than myself.
G - Grace:
We will not find God by keeping "the rules" or following a performance checklist. The foundation for intimacy is love, not law. Application: I must learn to let God love me.
Y - Yearning:
Intimacy doesn't happen automatically -- you must hunger for it and desire it more than anything else around you! Application: I must want intimacy with God PASSIONATELY!

Some Tips On Building Intimacy.....

  1. Spend extended time alone with God. (half to a day with God - 4 times a year.)
  2. Seek to please God
  3. Reflect what God is doing in your relationship with Him
  4. Find a Christian who models intimacy and spend time with them.
  5. Tell your self the truth about where you are in this relationship.
  6. Practice intimacy with family
  7. Be a part of a group that encourages intimacy with God.

"Thus, the Lord used to speak to Moses, face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend..."

Question?

?- How is your Intimacy with God?

Are you a Martha who is very busy and worried about many things. Or are you a Mary who found the greater thing - setting at Jesus feet and letting Him love you and pour Himself in you.

?- Do you let God love you?

Have a great day everyone and know that you are all loved. Lets be praying for each other in this area of Intimacy. I think sometimes God might get sick of our doing and says, "What I want is more of you" and for us to say, "All I need and want is You."

I truly believe if we want to be used by God in powerful ways we must become intimate with Him. If we want to obey Him, we must love Him, and for us to love Him we must first know Him.

Know that you are in my prayers. Keep pressing on to Him who loves you very much.

God is Good All The Time!
"He Must become greater, I must become Less"
