THE GREATNESS OF A MAN'S POWER IS
THE MEASURE OF HIS SURRENDER - 10/23/97
Next John 3:30 Letters

Dear All,

We serve a great and mighty God who is worthy of our praise. May we keep our eyes on Him who loves us most.

"THE GREATNESS OF A MAN'S POWER IS THE MEASURE OF HIS SURRENDER."

Read what these men had to say toward the end of their lives:

George Mueller said this when asked what was the secret to his success: "There was a day that I died - Utterly died. Died to George Mueller, his opinions, his preferences, his taste, and his will. Died to the world, its approval, or censure. Died to the approval or blame even if my brethren or friends and since then I have studied only to show myself approved unto God."

The American evangelist - J. Wilbur Chapman asked General William Booth if he would disclose his secret for success. "He hesitated for a second, "Chapman said, " and I saw tears come into his eyes and steal down his cheeks, and then he said, 'I will tell you the secret. God has had all there was of me. there have been men with greater brains than I, men with greater opportunities; but from the day I got the poor of London on my heart, and a vision of what Jesus Christ could do with the poor of London, I made up my mind that God would have all of William Booth there was.'" Dr. Chapman said he went away from the meeting knowing "that the greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender."

After reading these two guys my first response is to say, "WOW"! My second response is to say, "How is my surrender?" My third response is to say, "How did they get to that point in their walk with Christ?"

My Conclusion Was This:

- They Got The Character & Inner Life Growth Down. (private personal disciplines)

Tim Elmore calls this Phase Two of our development.

God's Objectives In This Phase Are:

  1. Intimacy: Close relational experience between you and Him. (He desires this)
  2. Discernment: Distinguishing between right and wrong. (understanding of how God thinks.)
  3. Lordship: Obedient heart out of love for Him; settle the Lordship issue. (not out of duty)
  4. Security: Deep inner life; security in the truth of the scripture
  5. Identity: Healthy self image; your identity is established on who He says you are.

God wants to work on the inside things first and often we by-pass these things. And if this is true, then how can we ever reach and be used in other phases that God wants to take us through.

Question?

Q - Why do we often skip the inner life growth?

A - Maybe there is no glamour in this phase.

A - Maybe it's because no one will see this inner life stuff any way.

Q - Where are you in your growth with Christ?

Q - Could this CHARACTER & INNER LIFE GROWTH be what determines how successful you and I will be in the different phases of development?

Just a few things to think about. Keep pressing on and know that you are loved. Take care and have a great day.

Also, I would love for you to respond to this.
