This Little Girl's Dad

My dad may never be as clever
as my neighbor down the street,
He may never be as wealthy
as some others that I meet.
My dad may never have the glory
that some others have had,
But He's just got to be successful
as this little girl's dad.

There are certain dreams that my dad does cherish
that he'd like to see come true,
There are things that he wants to accomplish
before his working time is through;
But the task his heart is set on
is to guide this little hand,
And make himself successful
as this little girl's dad.

Oh, My dad may never come to glory
and He may never gather gold
And men may count him as a failure
when his business life is told;
But if I who follow after follow Jesus
then he'll be glad,
Because he'll know that he's been successful
as this little girl's dad.

It's the one job that my dad dreams of,
the task that he thinks of most
Because if he fails this little girl
He'll have nothing else to boast;
For the wealth and fame he'd gather,
all his fortune would be sad
If he fails to be successful
as this little girl's dad.
